how can u tell when a quad used used alot and worn out?
how many miles is alot for a atv? and how can u tell it worn out?
Look at it, is the plastics in good shape? or broken and cracked? what about the tires, are they worn out, like someone drove the pee out if it and parked it? look at the brake controls the levers themselves, are they the right shape? is anything beat up looking and dented? Is the seat cover in good condition? or is it ripped to heck, and looks like something ate it?. inspect the rear end, does it have a chain, is it adjusted correctly, or hanging all loose, looking sad? and can you see the rear sprocket? is the sprocket teeth in good condition, or are the teeth all worn, or maybe even curved from someone always hammering the throttle? do all the gears work, is any switches broken or are any parts missing. does it look cared for, like someone actually took care of it.? how about maintenance any service records come with the quad (this is a good sign, if someone took the time to keep records, and kept it organized) Look the frame over carefully, look for signs of a crack around welded areas, or say, a repaired area where the paint is not factory, maybe painted a different color entirely, but looks much newer than the rest.
The way people are today, you have no clue if what they said was true, be wary of anyone, who recently bought it, then is trying to sell it, (Especially if the title is signed and open, and his name is not on the title) this does not mean its a bad deal, but he may have bought it cheap, and is trying to resell it, OR had a problem, and is trying to DUMP IT ON YOU!!!??? check his story only because if he is trying to make a few bucks, I understand that!!! (doesn't mean I agree with it, but I will grind the price down EVEN MORE THAN NORMAL.
IF HE JUST BOUGHT IT, and is now selling it, but has some lame reason, or worse, NO REASON. FINE, plan on taking it to a bike mechanic, and pay to have it professionally assessed. This is the only way you are going to be able to tell. A shop can do things you cannot, such as an engine diagnostic, if the guy is not interested in letting a mechanic check it out, before you buy it, walk away.
I ALWAYS SAY, I AM GOING TO A MECHANIC, BEFORE I BUY, NO MATTER WHAT! just to see what the owner says about it one way or the other. Just because you say you are going to a mechanic, does not mean you will right then. Use your brain, ask a question in the beginning of the conversation, and ask it later on, to see if the answer is the same.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS BE PATIENT, NEVER HURRY TO BUY ANYTHING, AND GET A PRICE CHECKED OUT FIRST, don't buy it, and then check the price, call a dealer and ask, before you buy what its worth ok?.Keep in mind, that for 3,800 bucks, you can ride a pretty nice quad out the door of a shop, brand new, so don't pay three grand for something a year old, when for another 800 you can have a new one. good luck, hope this helps.
